"Read more, explore more"

Thinking back to high school geography and history textbooks and looking at the pictures, there were landscapes of many nations, historical relics, ethnic customs, etc. The vivid depictions made wonders of what the outside world looks like. Thereafter, an adventurous soul buried deep inside my heart awakened. Without visiting the world in person, one would not know how vast and wonderful this world is. During this trip to Malaysia, we have gained two types of knowledge and learning, one was exchanges between Taiwanese businessmen, and the other was cultural baptism.

On this trip to Malaysia, I saw the brilliance from the rural to the city, and also discovered many livelihood observations. In the countryside, most of the houses were low ceiling single floored houses. These low houses were like a fusion of works between the eastern and western, somewhat simple yet elegant. When we arrived in the city since there was no earthquake, most of the buildings were thin, just like slices of biscuits, and the overall building expressed a sense of delicacy. The George Town, where the hotel was located, was a part of an old town, therefore in addition to many Western-style buildings from the British colonization, there were also Chinese architecture, mosques, and Indian streets. If you ever pay a visit, you will be immersed in the cultural uplift of classic murals and the rendering building styles.

Penang, Malaysia is like a cultural melting pot, with Malays, Chinese, Indians, and their various religious backgrounds such as Islam, Buddhism, Daoism, Hinduism, etc. People of different cultural backgrounds living together on the same land expressed a multicultural lifestyle and attitude. Here in Penang, we can see people have respect for religion, the power of faith, and follow devout believers. Whether it’s praying in the direction of Allah at a mosque, taking a shower in a Hindu temple for the solemnity of the Gods, or praying to the Gods with incense in the Guanyin Temple, we can all feel the kindness of the local residents, passing by on the road, we can all get their most sincere smile.

In terms of personality and work attitude, the Chinese are more motivated. Malays have a more optimistic and relaxed frame of mind. Almost every Taiwanese businessperson says that most of the hard works are done by the Chinese (including Taiwanese). Then I heard them describing an example of how the Malaysian government protects Malays (regarding job opportunity), which made me feel unfair.

Local Chinese can hardly be promoted even if they perform well in government agencies; in contrast, they are often promoted better in private companies. Therefore, many Chinese choose to work overseas. For Malay students with better grades, the government will send them to study abroad for free and go directly to work in government agencies after they return to China. Hearing this unequal treatment, I understand why Malays are more relaxed and Chinese are more ambitious.

TAIWAN FIGHT ENTERPRISE CO., LTD

FEC is a company that makes audio iron frames, which has three factories operating at the same time. Established in 1968 and came to Malaysia in 1994. At the time when we asked why he came to Malaysia, the owner said: "The China market is harder to thrive. Many businesses are rushing to eat a small piece of the pie. So, why not come to Malaysia and enjoy the piece of pie all for yourself?" The owner also gave us a lot of advice and encouragement. Opening a factory is a thankless task. The workload will only increase and not decrease, and the owner must be very responsible because all employees rely on the owner for a living. I can not just close the factory anytime just because I felt like it.

VISCO Technology Sdn Bhd

As a contact lens addict, I feel something is wrong with my body without wearing contact lenses. Visco makes biomedical and optical products, as well as the production of materials for manufacturing lenses; They also collaborated with ophthalmologists to make silicone contact lenses that are better for the eyes. Visco was the first company in Malaysia to obtain the "Certificate of Registration" for medical devices, which helped develop customers in the United States and Japan.

  「HOTAYI ELECTRONIC (M) SDN. BHD.

HOTAYI ELECTRONIC (M) SDN. BHD.
HOTAYI is a car navigation manufacturing company. This is very different from the previous Taiwanese business. It is a newly established second factory with a very modern and technological design. There is no need to wear dust-free clothes inside the factory, and the employees work in a very clean environment, a hospital-like room. The company also provides employees with a good working environment and benefits, with floor-to-ceiling windows on all sides to let in the sunshine naturally and a small grass field that allows people to play golf. A lot of green plants were also placed around the building so that the employees can rest their eyes, and calm their mood from work.

"Breathtaking-

Sofasco Industries Sdn Bhd Company"

The director of Chuncheng Company analyzed for us the advantages of Malaysia's political stability, higher education level, and convenient transportation; the disadvantages are higher salary and shortage of workforce. It can be seen that this country is highly developed, but there aren't enough employees to promote the country's revitalization. In addition, I observed that the company uniforms are in different colors. After inquiring, I learned that the original factory manager used colors of the uniform for management. Various colors represent different classes. I think this is a simple and easy-to-manage method that is easy to understand and worthy of emulation.

Afterward, during the visit to the production process of screws, I deeply felt the power of the post-industrial revolution, which was breathtaking and deserved to be a major breakthrough for mankind. It can't help but remind me of the current Industry 4.0, which is moving towards digitalization and artificial intelligence, which might push human beings to a higher level? This will be a great change. Although it can be expected that physical labor will be eliminated in large numbers, it also creates many emerging opportunities. For example, more than ten years ago, the vast majority of people did not expect the emergence of Youtubers and playing video games to be seen as esports athletes.

The ancient Chinese idioms said: "Reading thousands of books is no better than traveling thousands of miles." Reading is one of the ways to learn; it is indispensable, but it is also important to do what you want to do or experience life from daily living. There are hundreds of ways to learn, as long as it is beneficial to oneself and can make gains and grow oneself; making progress is good learning, anyway.

Time Travel Tunnel"

It’s good to have this special opportunity to communicate with local students and having a deep understanding of the language and food culture, and learning the similarities and differences between Malaysia and Taiwan.  Here you can not only see brick houses, triad courtyards, bungalows, and temples as if traveling to our parents’ childhood days on a time machine. You could also appreciate flavorful foreign architecture, just like taking an immersive history lesson.

I like the atmosphere of Penang very much. Compared to Kuala Lumpur, it feels more casual and retro, full of history and breaths of time, like living in Taiwan in the 1980s, without cold high-rise buildings, and a very simple and comfortable life. Actually, every building has its own little story, which is worth savoring. Although Malaysia and Taiwan are far apart, the two are inseparable from each other after an understanding of the historical backgrounds. No wonder the two countries feel very close and familiar.

Secret of Success''

I found that when these business owners share their life experiences, they all have something in common. I mainly divide them into seven key parts.

  1. 1. Persevere and never give up.
  2. 2. Keep lifelong learning and broaden your knowledge.
  3. 3. Have opinions or ideas, have the courage to break through yourself, try more while you are young, and turn ideas into actions.
  4. 4. Take everything seriously and face challenges with a positive attitude.
  5. 5. Have a strong sense of ambition and crisis, understand one's advantages and potential opportunities, have a long-term vision, compete with the world, and steadily walk out a path.
  6. 6. Know how to behave, have manners, and be kind to others.
  7. 7. Be a problem solver and propose solutions to the problem.

Sharing the Experiences

The general manager mentioned that Taiwanese businessmen are good at designing and manufacturing loudspeakers and can produce high-quality products. Most of the products on the market are made in Taiwan. However, it is a pity that they are not good at branding. For all young people, this is a good opportunity, which means that the market is in demand. Since I am still young, I have a lot of time to turn my ideas into reality, research and implement them, and even launch toward the road of entrepreneurship, start branding, earn honor for Taiwan, and let more people know about this place.

From the experience sharing with the chairman of MEI, I realized the necessity of networking and the importance of finding and using resources. When encountering a problem, you can first humbly seek help from someone who is familiar with and has relevant experience. This also echoes with another chairman's words, "Make friends first, then do business, thus things will become smooth."

In addition, the general manager mentioned "learning begins when a question is asked" completely resonated with what Professor Ku said earlier which surprised me. It also made me think that the current learning is not only about inputting knowledge into my head, but also digesting and outputting. Plus, thinking and asking questions constantly with a doubtful mentality, and finally internalizing to become a part of me. Reading books is not merely looking with your eyes, but also thinking with your mind, and even speaking with your mouth!
